More Entertainment For Less Money

Cable bills, satellite bills, movie tickets, music downloads, book shopping, magazine subscriptions, sporting events - keeping yourself entertained sure costs money. Spending on entertainment is easy to do because it's highly desirable, but if you don't pay attention, then it's easy to overspend and not get much value.

First look at what you spend on television entertainment, which for most people means a satellite or cable subscription. Everyone knows these bills go up all time and you don't get any more content. A conservative monthly price for cable or satellite television is $30, but people tend to be in the $40 to $50 range, and people who get premium channels might have bills in the $75 to $100 range. At any level, that is a high cost so you can flip through the channels and watch a lot of commercials. Even a modest $40 a month bill equals $480 a year on television.

I personally chose to eliminate my satellite bill of $45 a month ($540 annual) and only pay $18 a month ($216 annual) for DVDs from NetFlix. With my NetFlix subscription I get any movie, documentary, or television show I want to watch and I do it on my schedule. I've arranged for significant annual savings on my television viewing and improved the quality of my entertainment. I no longer waste time channel surfing and watching commercials. And keep in mind that watching commercials fills you with longing for items you either can't afford or don't need anyway. So, reducing your exposure to television commercials could help you save money because your shopping impulses will not be triggered as much.

Online Friendship

Are you looking and searching the Internet in the hope of finding and meeting new people online? These days, searching, seeking and meeting new people online through friendship clubs to email is the easiest, fastest way of meeting new people, but you have to know where to look. Here are some guidelines to follow for meeting and making new friendships online:

Did you know that a high percentage of spam comes from friendship clubs asking you for your e-mail address online? Be careful when joining online clubs to meet people and freely giving out your email address. Try an anonymous service for finding people like NewFriends4U.com which does not reveal or sell your email address to any third party.

100% Free - As with most things they say 'you only get what you pay for', so if you see a site advertising a 100% free online friendship club should you be concerned? It is true that operating online friendship clubs costs a great deal of money and time, but now websites offering a free service are finding other ways to off-set these high costs by using advertising and it is the members that support these website costs when clicking displayed ads.

1) Firstly, if there is no advertising seen on the site, then it would be wise to ensure your email address in not being collected to sell to third parties for advertising use. (NewFriends4U.com will never disclose your email address to any third party)

2) If it's a free friendship club, without advertising, they may be quite new and looking to build their database of members. If their database numbers are small, to initially increase membership they offer their online service for free. The disadvantage would be a limited choice of you finding and making new friendships in your area.

If you could find what you are searching and looking for by meeting people online with a friendship club what ‘Value’ would you put on achieving your aim? The best way of looking at this would be to ask yourself what it would be worth to you if finding your perfect soul mate, a new best friend, the greatest sporting buddy you might ever meet or simply just great friendships… does this have a value to you? If not then you could find yourself continuing to remain alone!

Reality Shows And Children

Here was the girl, a teenager of 16 years on the stage. She was waiting for the comments of judges on her performance. First came judge number one and started a scathing attack on her performance. The child began crying. I thought that they will try to find out why she was crying and try to console her, pamper her and if needed send her home. Nothing like that happened. The child was alone crying on the stage and the second judge started criticizing her performance. The child was becoming hysterical and by that time the third judge was on her throat for giving a lousy performance.

The girl went home and next day went into coma. Not actual coma but something nearing that. After that the child was hospitalized and is trying to recover. I have seen the producer and the judges of the program defending themselves on the news channels. None of them has expressed any regret. They have been blaming the parents for sending a mentally unfit child to the program. This whole thing sounds sadistic. These people were getting some sadistic pleasure out of hammering a crying child. This was live on television in a civilized nation like India.

What do we call this? Should it not be called child abuse? What about the punishment to the producer and the judges? The child is suffering but they are happily going around giving interviews and defending their action. Why are all of us silently watching this and not demanding any action?

Online Communities

Socializing and meeting new people who share the same interests and hobbies is probably one of the most exciting aspects of teenage years. This is the time when being popular and knowing a lot of people holds great importance. High school and college years are supposed to be the most beautiful years of a person’s life as far as fun and entertainment are concerned. And they can be just that, provided you don’t do things foolishly and without listening to other people’s advice. Your parents’ concerns regarding the safety of using the Internet, for instance, might seem meaningless or exaggerated to you. However, you should keep in mind the fact that they only have your best interest at heart and that their care and concern is genuine.

With more and more online communities emerging, socializing and making new friends has become easier than ever before. It is also more convenient to meet friends online, from the privacy of your home, without having to invest too much time or energy into spending some quality time with the people you like. However, the safety of using certain chat rooms should be your concern as well, and not just your parents’. You probably like to pretend a lit bit when chatting online and make up certain things about yourself. You can imagine that all the others may very well do the same, so you never really know the person you are chatting with. You might be best friends and not even know your true identities. Some people are really good with words, especially when it comes to concealing their true intentions. And once you’ve been chatting for some time, a date in the real world makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it? What happens when you realize that the person you have been chatting with for so long is not at all who h

To get them even cheaper, consider turning to the purchase of pre-owned DVDs. This lowers the price even more and most places will still guarantee the purchase of a used product. If possible, check for scratches before making the purchase to avoid any hassle.

Of course, despite the availability of buying DVDs, it can still be cost effective and convenient to rent DVDs. All of the familiar rental chains are still abundant and they specialize in carrying all of the latest new releases. Again, prices for this have also gone down in the competitive DVD market.

Whatever you decide to do, you won't have to pay through the roof to do it. DVDs are affordable for everyone and are a great form of home entertainment.

Learn To Play Songs On Guitar

If you have never played a guitar, it is essential that you learn some fundamentals before you begin learning to play melodies. The first fundamental point is to learn how to properly hold the guitar. In your first musical lesson with any instructor, you would learn the same thing. What is important, before you can start playing songs, is that you hold the guitar in such a way that the sound is maximized and not hindered by an improper hold.

You’ll need to play the guitar either sitting down or standing up. If you begin with small audiences, you will have to learn to play standing up. But, for now, sitting down is the optimal way to learn, as novice players usually do not practice upright. When sitting down with the guitar, make sure that it rests comfortably and easily on your lap. Make sure your arms do not block the oval or circular hole on the head of the guitar. Additionally, make sure your arms encircle the instrument without holding it too tight. In other words, keep your body relaxed and the bulk of your arms from blocking the instrument’s sound potential.

Next, it is important to know basic hand and finger positioning. The left hand is generally used as the note or fret hand. This hand is used to hold the strings in such a manner that notes are strummed in a certain chord. The fingers and thumb work actively and succinctly. The wrist is bent upward in such a way that you are still able to grip the neck of the guitar with your thumb, but still have plenty of leeway to allow your fingers to move about freely and quickly. Eventually, with more practice and time, you will be able to hold a chord without much thought.

As you practice, make sure not to squeeze the strings against the fret too hard. If you can’t seem to get a chord to sound right, you might try adjusting your technique. Too many new guitar players think that they have to squeeze the strings against the frets in order to make the sound perfect. In actuality, it is better to hold the string snug against the fret with calloused fingers.Once you have these fundamentals down, you are ready to begin playing some basic chords. If you want to teach yourself quickly and accurately, you’ll have to start out slowly. However, some songs can be easy and quite fun to learn. A couple of these are Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Furthermore, you’ll see that the guitar is not that difficult of an instrument to play.

Video Sharing Sites Other Than YouTube

Almost anyone you talk to has an idea of what YouTube is. DailyMotion is another site that most tech savvy people know by name. They are the big players in the world of online video sharing. With the explosive growth that site like YouTube have fueled when it comes to video, other sites are popping up that allow for video sharing. This article will take a look at some of those other sites.

If you like the look and feel of sites like YouTube and Dailymotion there are two others that also allow for the same type of video uploads. Sharkle is one site that follows along the same lines as the video giants. The site has an easy to use interface and makes it easy to create communities with people you know to share your videos. Sharkle also has some interesting features such as their ad mixer and contests.

The other, YouTube-like site that I will talk about today is SelfCastTv. The site is listed as beta, but it does have a nice clean interface and an interesting way of organizing the user 's videos. The channel feature on SelfCastTv makes it easy to categorize your videos. It also makes it easier to find the types of videos you like to watch. Either site can be a great choice if your new to the world of online video, because with a smaller user base your videos don't get lost in the mix.

If blogging is more along the lines of what you like to do there are two other video sites that cater more to video bloggers. Flukiest is one of the best video blogging sites. More than video blogging it is really a social networking site. Flukiest is the first social networking site that caters to people who want an easy way to share photos or video. ZippyVideos is another website that focuses as much on community as it does video.

The other two sites worth mentioning are Vmix and ShortBrainTV. Vmix, although it has some features like those found on the other sites listed here, tends to cater more to a business audience. They do have user submitted video, but their focus is on business solutions. That isn't surprising really, since Vmix was started by some of the big names in the media industy. ShortBrainTV (formerly known as bliptv) caters to the creative types. ShortBrain is a collection of online amateur and professionally produced short movies and animations. Whatever your tastes or intentions, there are a lot of great sites on the internet for those wanting to share their videos.

Playing Online Games Comfortably

The first thing you should take care of is your hands. Holding a mouse or hitting keys can cause a lot of persistent strain on your muscles. This is effectively what causes carpal tunnel syndrome as well, so you should definitely try and reduce the stress on your hands. Chances are that you’ll probably have a gaming session at an online arcade so prepare your surrounding to help your hand. If you are getting ready to play a shooter than you should position your hand for the least strain possible. For example, it is difficult to play arcade games for any length of time if your wrist is at a significant angle. You should keep your hand level with the mouse if possible. This can be done through several means. You can buy a nice mouse pad that has a wrist rest built in at the base, or you can just grab a standard paperback book and place it between you and the mouse. This is usually enough to keep your wrist relatively level with the mouse.

This is the first step to happy hands. You should now be able to play your favorite arcade games without getting sore. There are a few other ways to extend your flash game session though. You need to get in the habit of checking your grip. It is all too easy to get into the "DIE ALIENS DIE!!!!!" mode and forget that you are now apparently trying to strangle your mouse. It’s basic physics. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you are playing arcade games while trying to crush your mouse, the mouse will be exerting an equal force out onto your fingers. This can lead to some painful cramping and discomfort that will make you quit your game early.

It may seem like I’ve forgotten the keyboard arcade games, but I didn’t. The same basic rules apply to playing an arcade game with a keyboard. If you are racing are playing an online adventure game, then you’ll want to keep your wrists straight and your fingers relaxed. There are classes to teach perfect typing methods, but you don’t really need to type 70 words a minute to win an online race. Just keep your wrist out from your body and try not to rest them on anything. That really builds up stress while you’re playing.

All of these may seem to be a little nit picky, but you shouldn’t be quick to forget about them. Nothing is worse than your hand cramping up and costing you a win after you’ve spent 20 minutes getting to the last level. Just follow these basic tips and avoid 3 hour gaming sessions, and you should be fine. Now go get ‘em!

How To Letter Your Cartoons

Firstly your letters should be very plain and simple. Compare them to the use of Arial or Helvetica typestyles in printing, or on the web. These two styles are among the most popular because of their plain, non fussy style, and are pretty easy to read in most sizes. So, avoid fancy flourishes and curlicues, and capital letters should be the rule rather than the exception.

You do not need much space between your letters in a balloon, but on the other hand do not crowd your letters and words. Make all your letters vertical, and avoid mixing slanting (italic) letters with vertical.

For the sake of neatness do not attempt to letter without first drawing some faint parallel guidelines, sketch the letters in lightly with pencil before inking. A good tip is to cut slots in the form of parallel guidelines out of a piece of thin card. A standard business card is ideal. Cut out two or three of these for letters of different heights. Use a pen whose point has become blunted with use for lettering. A new broad-nibbed pen may be used, but never a new fine pointed pen.

When you are lettering your cartoons, you should bear in mind that all drawings intended for publication, with rare exceptions, will be reduced in size before the printing process. Usually your drawing will be reduced by one half, although occasionally it will be a little more or less. So an original drawing of four by four inches will appear as a two by two inch drawing.

The smallest type generally in use in newspapers and magazines is six point type, that is six seventy-seconds of an inch in height. So you can see that in a half reduction scenario you should be drawing your letters no less than twelve point type in size, or twelve seventy-seconds of an inch. If the reduction is to be a bit less than a half then your letters should be drawn about an eighth of an inch high. Smaller type may be used sometimes , but it is always better to err on the side of safety and make your letters slightly too big, rather than too small.

If you cut the slots in your card to these guidelines you won't go far wrong. You will never be thought the worse of (quite the opposite in fact, it shows professionalism) if you ask the paper or magazine you wish to submit to what reduction they usually use. Finally don't forget that it is easier to sketch your words with pencil before inking. You can easily make changes which will not be noticeable, using a good quality eraser prior to inking.

Take Good Christmas Pictures

Even if you aren't much of a photographer, just about everyone brings out a camera for the holidays. You're going to want snaps of the kids excited to see what Santa brought or a shot of your husband when he opens the joke gift that you got him. This quick guide will give you some tips and tricks on how to take better pictures during the holidays.

Don't use the flash. All your other relatives are going to be constantly blinding everyone; you want your pictures to be better than theirs and that means not using flash. The problem that usually arises from not using a flash is that your pictures may turn out blurry. This is because parties are usually at night when there's very little light. When there's less light, your camera compensates by leaving the shutter open longer (letting in more light). The easiest way to solve this problem is to place your camera on a tripod or rest it against a table or wall. Take multiple shots, holding the shutter button down and you're bound to get at least one good shot. Be sure you're using both your hands to support your camera. If your pictures are still coming out blurry, try putting your elbows together and pressing them up against your body. You'll be tenser and pictures will be clear.

Use different heights. When taking pictures of people, you typically want to be at eye level. This is fine for group shots or shots of adults, but when it comes to kids (and there will inevitably be kids around), don't be afraid to crouch down and get to their level. Even lying down on the floor can help bring out some great photos. For shots of objects (presents, decoration, dessert) experiment with different angles instead of simply seeing something and snapping a photo (inanimate objects don't typically move, so they're easier to work with). Try a direct top view or try putting the object in the foreground and some people or other scenery in the background.

Edit your images. Many people head straight for the photo booth at the local drugstore after filling up a memory card. If you really want some good pictures, snapping a photo is only half the job. Plug your memory card into a reader or use a usb cable and upload the pictures. Most cameras come with some basic editing software, but there are plenty of free resources on the internet (Google's Picasa is a great free editor). Some of the best quick things you can do are to crop and straighten your photos. Red eye is becoming less of a problem these days, but be sure to go through and fix all the scary eyeballs. The last (and most important) thing you should do is use color correction. Too yellow? Add blue. If you're colorblind, use the auto color correct feature. Color correction makes every picture you take better.

The best photographer is one who experiments. There will always be other people taking pictures, so try angles that no one else is doing. And don't ever let having a cheap camera be an excuse, just learn to master your camera and you'll become a good photographer in no time.
